By bridging homogeneity & timelessness, the city of Thallepolis is imagined to be rebirthed from the ruins of a failed civilization, sailing towards an era of prosperity, while being guided by its five core values.

Named after the Ancient Greek muse of joy and merriment, Thalia, Thallepolis reflects the five core values of a new, ideal city, represented through five distinct symbols that signify the city’s character. The Scarab (Red = Earth), symbolizes the city’s commitment to rewarding hard work. The Star (Beige = Time), connects the past with the present, as the City utilizes its heritage to move forwards. The Dot (Pink = Society), represents multiculturalism, showcasing the diversity of citizens within society. The Fountain (Blue = Water & Sky), shows that although meritocracy is the foundation of the city, equal opportunities are provided to all citizens. Finally, the Palm Tree (Green = Wealth) signifies a guaranteed living standard, ensuring equality and the city’s prosperity.

Rather than attempting to solve the amaranthine problems of contemporary societal order, this project blends the ancient ideas regarding the existence of utopias with the Renaissance Ideal City concepts, creating a symbolic representation of what could be built if civilization was given a second chance.

How would the City stay afloat? In what currency would it provide to its citizens? Would it be secure? Modern? Thallepolis’ own banknotes were produced reflecting the city’s values, as well as considering safety (with UV sensitive paper, small-scale details, and iridescent strips) and accessibility (through braille notations).
